Comments
If you leave a comment, the site keeps the name, email address, and website you type, the comment itself, and the IP address and browser information WordPress records so it can catch spam. Your email address is not published. A first comment from a new address is held until it is approved. Comments stay with the post.
The box “Notify me via e-mail if anyone answers my comment” starts checked. Leave it checked and you will get an email when someone replies. Uncheck it if you do not want that.
If you check “Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment,” your browser keeps those three fields in a cookie for one year. That cookie is not set unless you check the box.
Spam filtering happens on this site. Comments are not sent to an outside spam service, and the site does not use Gravatar or any other service to show a picture next to your name.
The newsletter
The signup form asks for your email address and, if you want to give it, your first name. A new signup counts only after you confirm it from the message the site sends. Every letter has a link to unsubscribe. Your address is kept until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed.
The list lives in the site’s own database, on the computer that runs the site. It is not held by a mailing company. After you subscribe, the site may store a cookie in your browser so it can show you the right confirmation message.
What this site does not do
It does not sell or share your information. It does not run advertising or analytics. The contact page is an email address only. Writing to it does not pass through a form stored on the site. Readers do not get accounts.
The person who writes the site signs in to edit it. That sign-in uses ordinary login cookies in that browser.
Who else sees a visit
Cloudflare sits in front of the site and sees ordinary connection details, such as your IP address and the page you requested, so it can deliver the site and block abuse. It may set its own cookie for that purpose.
When the site sends a comment notice or a newsletter, that message goes out through Fastmail. Fastmail therefore sees the address and the contents of that message.
How long information is kept
Comments stay with the post. Newsletter addresses stay until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed. Connection logs are kept for security and troubleshooting, then rotated away.
Asking for a copy or for deletion
Write to [email protected] and say what you want. You can ask for a copy of the comment or newsletter information held about you, or ask that it be deleted. A published comment can be removed.

If this page changes, the date at the top will change.
